| Agreatdog's Skylink Sensors Selection For Peace of Mind System |
While there are many Skylink and other compatible sensors available, below you will find my reasoning for selecting just these two main sensors with the intent to maximize protection while minimizing cost and to give me Peace of Mind.

Skylink Temperature and Audio Sensor
My first thought was to use Skylink Temperature Sensors to alarm for fire based on heat. Then upon further investigation I realized that if temperature levels were high enough to trigger the temperature sensor, a pretty good fire would be brewing. Most likely, my dogs would be close to or at asphyxiation as the fire would be using up all the air for combustion.
My fire protection selection thus went to smoke alarms as "where there is smoke, there is fire" rang my bell. Also when a fire is in the smoke stage, more time is available for intervention before disastrous results occur.
Further investigation revealed two types of smoke alarms, Ionic and Photoelectric. The Ionic Smoke Alarm is prone to false alarms as it can pick up non combustible odors. The Photoelectric Smoke Alarm tends to sense dust and set off false alarms. Also, I discovered, Smoke Alarms must be changed every 5 years. While there are wireless Smoke Alarms($50+), the cost of replacing the wireless sensors every 5 years could be prohibitive.
So, I selected the cheapest Ionic Smoke Alarms (Firex AC/DC with interconnectable feature $10) and interlocked them with each other. I placed eight Smoke alarms throughout my kennel and wired them such that if any one of them was triggered, they would all sound an audible alarm. Then I placed the Skylink Audio Sensor next to the Smoke Alarm closest to the Skylink Dialer, which in turn would trigger the alarm dialer.
The Skylink Temperature Sensor can be used to sound two alarm conditions, Low and High Temperature. I used the Temperature Sensor in my three Whelping Rooms (Chow, Shih Tzu and Sheltie) to alarm in case of high temp as a backup to the Smoke Alarm and for low temp in case of furnace failure and possible freeze protection.
These sensors give me a formidable fire, temperature and freeze protection and alarm system that gives me Peace of Mind. This entire system has battery backup.
There are many additional sensors that can be added to this system and I plan to add them as my finances permit. It is comforting to know that my current configuration only occupies 25% of this systems resources. Agreatdog Prices*
