Adopting Agreatdog Rescue and Special Needs Dogs
Now and then, we have Shih Tzu, Chow Chow or Sheltie puppies available that have special needs or who are rescue dogs that we take in, and we try to find them Forever Homes. These puppies will need families who understand that they are very special dogs, who will require lots and lots of patience and love. We want to be sure that anyone adopting them understands this and realizes that they are making a lifetime commitment to the dog and also we want to be sure the dog is a good match with your lifestyle.  These dogs are not for everyone, but if you are the type of person who can give these dogs a wonderful home, you will be rewarded with a companion who will give you a lifetime of unconditional love, respect and loyalty.

Meet Beanie, a Shih Tzu born 7/25/2008.  He is a special needs puppy that has an exercise requirement.  He mostly "bunny Hops" and needs constant exercise at the right pace so that he uses his back legs as they are supposed to be.

Adoption Fee $200

Beanie is the happiest little boy you have ever seen! He’s on the smaller side, is a gorgeous cafe latte color with white markings but he was born with back leg problems. He is what we call a ‘swimmer puppy’, meaning he wouldn’t use his back legs and would drag himself about using his front ones. We gave him a lot of puppy physical therapy and he has developed muscle control of the back legs now and can run, walk and play with the best of them! However, his back legs look ‘odd’ and he has a bunny hop gait that isn’t typical of a Shih Tzu. He’s loving, sweet and very playful and would do very well with kids and other animals. He has started potty training, but will need more time and effort to complete it. He has a great energy level but will be happy spending time sitting on your lap too. Beanie has no idea at all that he’s a bit different than the other dogs! With him, it’s all good!

Can you give Beanie a forever home?

Meet Mickey, a one or two year old Shih Tzu Rescue Dog that needs a family to care for and nuture him. He will need alot of patience and attention.

Adoption Fee $100

Mickey is a sweet, little guy that came to us in pretty bad condition. He was basically abandoned and was emaciated, had an eye condition, and was shy of strangers and some other animals. He’s still on the thin side, but I think he will always be a slimmer dog. He’s still nervous in some situations, and not potty-trained, but he has great potential to be a wonderful companion. He will require eye drops once a day for awhile and we give his new family the eye medication. Mickey will need to be placed with someone who has great patience and tons of love to give. If you can commit to Mickey and give him the patience and love he deserves, I know you will be repaid 1000 times over with more love and loyalty than you can imagine.

Can you give Mickey a forever home?

This is Tucker, a Shih Tzu born 7/26/2008. He was born with a heart Murmur, which he has mostly outgrown, and is a snorter. He should have a laid back family, preferably with no small children or an otherwise hectic environment.

Adoption Fee $200

Here is our darling baby, Tucker, who was born with a serious heart murmur. We were never sure if he would thrive and grow but here he is now,  a year old and is a beautiful boy with amazing coloring. We had given thought to keeping him, but we realize he would be much better off in a home (preferably one without other dogs and on the lower activity scale) where he can be the center of attention and have his family focused on him completely. It will be painful to give Tucker up but we have to think of what’s best for the dogs and if he can find a family that will love him, then he deserves to have that love. He is a lovely, sweet baby who rests his head on your shoulder when you hold him and just snuggles in. He should be quite easy to potty train, he’s very bright and has a very good attention span. He will be a perfect companion on those cold, winter days or rainy nights. Please note that he is a BIG snorter! Most Shih Tzus do some type of snorting, some more than others, and Tucker is definitely a ‘more than others!’ Can you give Tucker a forever home?

It is important for us to know that any potential families understand that there must be a real commitment to the dog being considered, and it is also important that the dog fit your lifestyle. Special needs dogs can require more attention and more patience than others and our goal is to help the right family find the right dog in order for both to have the best quality of life possible. Therefore, we would like to speak with anyone who is considering bringing one of our special needs dogs into their home.

The first step in this process will be a conversation via phone or you are welcome to visit us and meet the dogs so that we can determine if you and the dog you are interested in will be a good fit for each other. We will invite questions and offer as much help or information as we can regarding each dog.

If you would choose to adopt one of these charmers, please be advised that you must come for them, we will not ship them. You Must Agree to Spay or Neuter  as a Precondition to  Adoption
